Datamation is a publication. It was a small announcement of the "Statistical Analysis System, a product of the Statistics Department at North Carolina State University, that does data analysis and plotting, written one-third in Assember, one-third in Fortran, and one-third in PL/1, over 100,000 lines, and distributed with source code" that led to Barry Merrill at State Farm Mutual Insurance Company, in October 1972, to become the first company to purchase SAS, for its $100.00 price.
