Q8 - Why is Linkage Editing not always required for each Program? Because the Loader can link edit and load in one step, but only for execution. The Loader does not produce a program that can be reused. See Button 204. The actual Loader, IEWHEWLD, didn't appear until OS/360 R16 or R17; the three programmers who gave the talk at SHARE at the time the Loader was introduced could have been movie stars: a good-looking guy and two gorgeous young women.
