OS Paddle Project - Paddle Your Own Canoe - What OS/360 users would have to do when IBM dropped support. Dr. Robert Ranny at Oak Ridge created the project, and was able to push IBM to keeping support for OS/360 so that sites with heavily modified OS systems could eventually migrate safely to MVS. I remember Robert Ranni from Oak Ridge while I was a graduate student there. Note my memory of the spelling of his name.I also remember him once from a SHARE in the late 80's. I think the issue was not just dropping support of OS/MVT but LSPS (large scale programming support) for fast machines (360/91 360/195) that could not be DATed. I think it had changes later used in VS2, such as replacing SYS1.SYSJBQUE (sp?) in favor of in core control blocks. I used the 91 at X10 (Oak Ridge National Laboratory). The 195 was at the secure facility at K25 (Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant). The underlying issue was a lack of funding at some labs to upgrade machines. Dr Richard Kuebbing
