This was the first Computer Conference ever held in China, sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, and my first and only IEEE-published paper. This was prior to Tianamen Square, and our hosts were extremely happy we were there, since we were giving, not taking, information. Many of the attendees were US professors who had had Chinese students and this was their chance to see them in their homeland; in 1984 travel to China was still very uncommon. Judy and I also operated ham radio from the two club stations, BY1PK in Bejing, and BY4AA in Shanghai, and were the first couple to operate from both stations; ham radio had been shut down in China from 1948 until 1983.
